Ultimate Karting Champion 2022
Louis Harvey collects bonus Ultimate Karting Championship award
MALMESBURY racing driver Louis Harvey received his Senior Rotax Championship title and the People’s Choice gong at the Ultimate Karting Championship awards ceremony in Manchester last weekend.
The UKC awards night – held at the Concorde Conference Centre beneath a Concorde aircraft – saw awards handed out to the top five in each class, including Harvey – who landed the Senior Rotax title in highly-impressive style.
Louis Harvey Trophy Presentation
Paul Phelan, who runs the UKC series, said: “Louis Harvey has been crowned the 2022 Ultimate Karting champion in the Senior Rotax category and did so by defeating the largest attended senior grid in the country.
With 90 drivers competing for the title, this truly is an amazing feat for a driver competing at the pinnacle of UK karting.”
The racing-silverware presentations were followed but a series of special categories – one of which was the People’s Choice award, a prize handed out to recognise the driver with the most number of votes from the public.
Louis Harvey Peoples Choice Award Winner
Harvey knew he had been shortlisted for the award along with other very high-profile drivers in the sport, so was humbled to be announced as the winner.
Harvey said: “I have had two fantastic seasons racing in the Ultimate Karting Championship. I came fifth last year against a smaller gird, so to win it this year was amazing.
“The level of competition from the other drivers meant it went down to the last round of the season with at least three drivers able to clinch the title.
“I kept a level head and managed to secure the win before the final race, providing I stayed out of trouble and finished the final.
“To win the people’s choice as well was fantastic. You often hear the younger drivers and other families chatting about different drivers in karting but to have them and fans of the sport vote for you is an honour.
“I would like to thank Argenti Motorsport for all their support this year, all my sponsors and supporters, and especially my family who have support my racing for over 10 years driving me all over the country, in all weathers.
Win dedicated to Ashley Todd
“I would also like to dedicate this win to Ashley Todd my 2021 mechanic who we sadly lost this year, he is greatly missed by his extended Motorsport Family.”
Harvey is aiming to move into car racing in 2023 and is looking for companies to partner with him for another televised season of racing.
